Doc Pop’s News Drop: Collaborative Editing Coming To WordPress

Love WordPress News but hate reading? This is Doc Pop’s News Drop.

On last week’s episode, we talked about a new Chrome plugin that allows you to easily import Google Docs into the WordPress editor. A task which sounds easy, but usually ends up in a lot of frustration.

Writing about the this new importer tool on his blog, Matt Mullenweg raves about Google Docs interface for multiple users and even drops some hints about what to expect in the upcoming WordPress editor update. Including some collaborative features.

Before you get too excited, keep in mind that it took Google years to get to where they are now with collaborative editing, so don’t expect anything like annotations, comments, and real-time co-editing in the initial WordPress core release.

As Matt states:

“If you’re drafting something that looks closer to something in the 90s you could print out, Docs will be the best place to start and collaborate (and better than Medium). If you want to build a richer experience, something that really only makes sense on an interactive screen, that’s what the new WordPress editor will be for.”
